Hands and Feet Camp
What is it? The Youth from Pathway Community Church have gone on many mission trips to Henderson Settlement in the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky. While returning from our last trip to Kentucky in March of 2004, we came to the conclusion that our efforts could be used, as effectively, right here in Mancelona. Hence, the birth of “Hands and Feet Camp!
In 2006, we made arrangements with Cedar Bend Farm to use their facility as our “camp” for the week and then found service projects around the local area to perform. So far, we have worked on nearly 50 different projects ranging from putting a fresh coat of paint on, cleaning up trash, building a roof over a mobile home, building handicapped ramps, setting up mobile homes, replacing flooring or paneling, drywall repair to re-roofing houses. Each year we have approximately 20 youth attend Hands and Feet Camp, plus about 15 adult supervisors, coordinators, cooks, etc.
Throughout the year we are busy looking at new projects, planning them and raising funds to be able to perform them. Plus, each student is required to pay their own room and board for the week ($175.00) and we provide opportunities for them to raise that money through car washes, candy sales, and “rent-a-teen” where teens do odd jobs on a donation basis. The project costs each year are largely funded through Pathway Community Church and community fundraisers.
We are always looking for opportunities to serve, so if you have a need, please contact us or download a "Home Participation Request" by clicking on the link to the right. - Home Participation Request 2014
